Is it a Craig's world?

When the Internet first became big, people discussed how it was taking over the world, now, with Craigslist.org offering everything one could possibly need, it could be taking over the internet.
"If the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and a Cowardly Lion were around today they could probably find everything they needed along with a ride back to Kansas for Dorothy and ToTo on Craigslist," according to Times Magazine.
It seems that founder Craig Newmark found a way to combine eBay, eHarmony, and many more "e"s to create the ninth most commonly used website in America. At Craigslist.org, one can find a house, a job, a gig, a car, a new living room set, a spouse, and as one man did, a kidney.
"We are a community service, we're basically a classified site, with the idea that we are about giving people a break, people giving each other a break, and sometimes people treating other people like you want to be treated…that's the core value set," Newmark said.
The website has become extremely popular only through word of mouth. Newmark's website had its first postings in early 1995 when it was a San Francisco-only website.
Today the website is used in approximately 50 countries and 450 cities, and is particularly useful for college students who are looking for cheap (and sometimes free) furniture, as well as summer jobs. Craigslist.org is also considered to be the leading classified service medium, and one of the top ways to find a job in America.
"It just keeps growing, and we are curious about that, and we have to prepare for that technologically," Newmark said.
Newmark was born in Morristown, N.J. in 1952. He received his B.S. in Computer Science from Case Western Reserve University and later moved to San Francisco and started his famous website. Newmark is an advocate for keeping the Internet free, and spends most of his time making sure Craigslist.org is helping people like he planned.
